Cause for concern: Wild elephants eating waste, including plastic, from a dumping yard of the Munnar panchayat at Kallar. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals functionaries alerted panchayat officials and forest officials, who reached the spot and drove off the animals from the yard.

The popular deities today are two Vedic gods—Vishnu combined with a non-Vedic Narayana, and Rudra combined with a non-Vedic Shiva—and the many forms of Shakti, the supreme goddess. Agni, Indra and Soma, along with 28 others, became ‘minor deities’.
