On the occasion of Wildlife Week (October 2-8) and World Animal Day - 4th October 2026, CPREEC EIACP PC-RP, Chennai has designed and developed an awareness poster on the theme "See the World Through Their Eyes". Animals share our planet; they feel pain, loss and love just like us. This year's theme reminds us to see the world from their perspective and act with compassion.

CPREEC EIACP PC-RP, Chennai conducted an awareness programme on the 7 themes of Mission LiFE on 30th September, 2026

  As part of Mission LiFE, #CatchTheRain campaign and ' Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam ', CPREEC EIACP PC-RP, Chennai conducted an awareness programme on the 7 themes of Mission LiFE, rainwater harvesting & groundwater recharge, along with a plantation drive for the students of Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls Higher Secondary School, Mylapore, during their one-week NSS camp at Ellen Sharma Memorial Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sholinganallur, on 30.09.2026. Saplings of trees, flowering plants and herbs were distributed to the students and teachers, and the students actively participated in the plantation drive. A total of 35 students and 3 teachers participated, took the LiFE pledge, and awareness pamphlets and posters were distributed.

  The valedictory function of the GSDP Certificate Course on “Apiculturist (Wild Bee) – NTFP (Non-Timber Forest Produce)” conducted by CPREEC EIACP PC-RP was held on 28.09.2026 at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sippighat, South Andaman. Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram delivered the valedictory address and Dr. R. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, Sippighat and Mrs. Pachaiamma, Panchayat Samiti Member, Beodnabad Gram Panchayat felicitated the gathering and distributed certificates to the participants.   The dignitaries also visited the Bee Flora Herbarium prepared by the trainees.

  The GSDP trainees of the course titled "Apiculturist (Wild Bee) – NTFP (Non-Timber Forest Produce)", organized by CPREEC EIACP PC-RP at Sri Vijaya Puram, South Andaman, were taken on an Exposure Visit to the Progeny Farm, Department of Agriculture, Mile Tilak, Jirkatang, South Andaman.

 CPREEC EIACP PC-RP, Chennai participated in the Expo at WCEF 2026. The Centre showcased sustainable handicrafts and eco-friendly alternatives to plastic, crafted from coconut shells. The exhibits included kitchenware, pooja ware, decorative items and wall hangings. The display highlighted the principles of circular economy and waste-to-wealth, while promoting women livelihoods, in alignment with LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment and Mission LiFE. The knowledge products of CPREEC EIACP were also displayed at the stall. The exhibits received wide appreciation from the delegates and visitors.

  As part of celebrating World Ozone Day 2026, CPREEC EIACP PC-RP, Chennai has designed and developed an awareness poster highlighting this year's theme, ‘Global   Action for a Cooler Planet.’ The poster highlights key actions such as adopting renewable energy, promoting circular economy practices and choosing ozone-friendly products. The initiative aims to educate students, stakeholders and the general public on the importance of ozone layer protection for a cooler, safer and sustainable future.

  CPREEC EIACP PC-RP, Chennai organized a 5-days Capacity Building Programme on “Craft Making Alternatives to Single Use Plastics (SUPs) – Wealth from Waste” – Second Batch for Women. The programme commenced on 7th September, 2026 at Seshadripuram School - ICSE, Kishora Bharati, #32, Geddalahalli, Upparahalli Main Road, Tumakuru, Karnataka. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K. S. Kumar (Rtd.) Principal and trustee in Tumkur academy for creative learning and excellence (TACLE). In his inaugural address, he emphasized the urgent need to eliminate SUPs from daily life and appreciated CPREEC EIACP for selecting Tumakuru and for empowering women through skill-based livelihood opportunities. The programme was felicitated by Mrs. B.N. Rashmi, Principal, Sheshadripuram School ICSE. Mr. Ravishankar, State Officer, CPREEC, Karnataka coordinated the entire programme and welcomed the gathering. High School,  S.S. Puram, Tumakuru, Karnataka. Shri. Sathyanarayana, Secretary, S.V.K. Institutions, Tumakuru, Karnataka was the Chief Guest and distributed course completion certificates to the trainees. Mr. S. Ravishankar, Project Officer, CPREEC’s State Office, Karnataka organised and coordinated the programme.

The programme commenced today at S.V.K. High School, S.S. Puram, Tumkur, Karnataka. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Sathyanarayana, Secretary, S.V.K. Institutions, Tumkur, Karnataka. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the urgent need to eliminate SUPs from daily life and appreciated CPREEC EIACP for selecting Tumkur and for empowering women through skill-based livelihood opportunities. The programme was felicitated by Mrs. Mamatha, Headmistress, S.V.K. High School,  S.S. Puram, Tumkur and Ms. Trishala, Trustee, S.V.K. Institutions, Tumkur. Mr. Ravishankar, State Officer, CPREEC, Karnataka coordinated the entire programme and welcomed the gathering. He briefed about the objectives of EIACP, the ill effects of Single Use Plastics and the importance of Mission LiFE.

  CPREEC-EIACP PC-RP, Chennai organized an International Tiger Day & Mission LiFE Awareness Programme on seven themes at KRM Public School, Sembium, Chennai on 29.07.2026. The programme focused on creating awareness about tiger conservation, ecological importance of apex predators, habitat protection, anti-poaching, human-wildlife coexistence and the role of youth in biodiversity conservation. As part of Mission LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment, interactive sessions were conducted on seven key themes: Save Water, Save Energy, Reduce Waste, Reduce E-waste, Say No to Single-use Plastics, Adopt Sustainable Food Systems and Adopt Healthy Lifestyles. A special #CatchTheRain awareness session was also conducted to promote rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and water conservation practices among students.   How the Jamuns are warning us This year, I have seen more jamun (Indian blackberry) fruits in the markets than I have ever seen in the last three decades. The fruits are literally falling in abundance. Even the trees that bore only a few fruits last year are shedding large quantities of jamuns this year. Trees that were already fruiting heavily are now dropping fruits in huge numbers. What exactly is happening? My grandmother used to say only one thing: "When jamun trees shed fruits in such abundance during summer, that year is usually a drought year." According to plant science, my grandmother's traditional knowledge is remarkably accurate. In science, this fascinating and somewhat alarming phenomenon is called "Masting" or "Stress Fruiting." This final effort by a tree to produce the maximum possible fruits, sometimes at the expense of its own survival, is also referred to as "Suicide Fruiting" or a "Bumper Crop." ...
